A very flexible approach with the Chinese, centered around map control and harassment ! Slow down your opponent while you boom behind it, and ultimatly overwhelm them.

Centered around Commercial Age, this strategy is unusual for the Chinese and will often take your opponent by surprise ! But it can transition into Fortress or even Industrial age thanks to the incredible economy !

Pros
  • Extremely flexible
  • Able to fight effectively at any age
  • Incredible economy
  • Very good map control and harassment potential
Cons
  • Require a map with Trading Post
  • Need a lot of practice
  • Very reliant on mass to take positive trades

As we play with the Chinese, they are a few thing to know :

  • Our age 1 is rather slow, and leave us exposed to rushes
  • Our units are trained in banner armies, meaning you need more ressources to start a batch (delaying you further) and we cannot choose a specific unit to train. But our units are cheap and train fast !
  • Our unit composition vastly changes from one age to another, making transitions harder. However, the mass of unit we are able to produce and the speed at which we can remass, backed up by our insane economy, allow us to trade down armies as we transition. Basically trading our outdated army for a new, more powerfull one !

Every variant allow us to adapt to different matchups. Choosing the right approach comes with practice and good scouting.

You fear that enemy FF coming ? Why not kill him before that or force him to stay age 2 !

Strong against China, France or Germany for example. Avoid it against factions with a stronger defense age 2 like Incas or Indians.

Age 1

  • Build a forward Village, aim to get 50 wood from treasures or chop it (compensate with food treasure !)
  • First card is Trade Empire, build 2nd Trading Post as it arrives
  • Send 300 Wood, it should arrive during transition
  • Age up with Summer Palace, 4 villagers to build

Transition

  • With 300 Wood, build a second Forward Village
  • Put 6 villagers on hunts to keep constant villager production, rest on wood. As soon as you hit 400 wood, swap your villagers back to food and coin unless you have to train anti-cavalry early in age 2 (then food and wood)

Age 2

  • Send 7 Steppe Riders, start pressuring the map and delay your opponent
  • Research Stagecoach (on wood asap), and build your War Academy next to your foward village
  • Send Mandarin Duck Squad and get your monk near the pop. Train full disciple without idling your War academy
  • Start training constant Standard Army, you should be able to train one batch, have the wonder pop and be in your opponent base at 7:30. That’s a total of 11 Steppe Riders, 14 Chu Ko Nu, your Monk, 5 Disciples and a Flamethrower. If you are against a cavalry heavy faction, put your Summer palace on Ming Army
  • Use all the wood from trading posts to build more Villages
  • As you attack, keep producing Standard Army, and send 9 Qiang Pikeman as a support for your push (9:00)
  • Keep doing above, by the time your 4th age 2 shipment comes, you should have 6 villages up. Send Northern Refugees (10:30), unless you are against a cavalry heavy faction. In that case, send Mogolian Scourge and keep Northern Refugees for the next shipment

From there, use any wood to add a Market, additional War Academies, your Consulate and Castles in that order, or upgrade your villages for added population.

A BO heavily reliant on map control. Early harassment while you boom behind it. Very effective vs Sweden or Japan !

Age 2

  • During that time, send 7 Steppe Riders, start harassing
  • Send 700 Wood, with that wood + the one gathered in transition, research Stagecoach (on wood asap) + 1 War Academy (first batch asap) + 4 more Villages

You can send both shipments above in reverse for an earlier boom but delayed pressure.

  • Send Northern Refugees
  • Build a second War Academy + Consulate
  • Put the consulate on Germans, keep producing what you need on both War Academies, adapt gathering accordingly
  • Send Mandarin Duck Squad to fight, Mogolian Scourge to raid / counter cavalry or 700 Gold to age up

From there, it’s up to you !
